Brand Storytelling through Commercial Photography: From Greenville to Ibague

A brand isn't a logo — it's a story, and the photograph is how that story gets told. This is what brand storytelling looks like when it travels: from Greenville to Ibagué, Colombia, to photograph Insignia Coffee from the plantation to the final cup, and why process imagery returns more than product shots ever will.

The Assignment: Photograph a Brand's Whole Story

Most commercial work stops at the product. Insignia Coffee wanted the whole arc — the land, the process, the people, and the final cup — because that arc is the brand. I partnered with the company in Ibagué, Colombia, where owner Jhon Portela runs a rare operation: one that controls every step from cultivating beans to serving the cup. Photographing a brand that holistic means treating the process as the subject, not a backdrop.

Why Process Imagery Outperforms Product Shots

A product shot says what something looks like. A process shot says why it's worth more. Insignia's edge is its end-to-end control of quality, and the only way to make a customer feel that is to show it — the hands, the roast, the care at each step. That's the difference between photography that decorates a brand and photography that justifies its price.

What Brand Storytelling Returns

Over years of commercial and branding work, the throughline is ROI: imagery that doesn't just look good but moves the business. A coherent brand story — shot once, deployed across web, social, packaging, and press — builds equity that a one-off product photo never will. For a company competing on story as much as product, that library is the asset.
